The Belleville Police Service responded to 78 calls for service between December 13th, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. and December 14th, 2019 at 5:00 a.m.

Traffic Enforcement

Belleville, ON – On December 13th, 2019, at 11:47 a.m. an officer on patrol was stopped behind a car at a red light on West Moira Street. The officer watched the driver ahead put her cell phone out the window and take several pictures of herself. This “selfie” cost the 21-year-old Trenton woman a $615.00 ticket for using a cell phone. If convicted, the cell phone charge would also result in a loss of three demerit points as well as a three-day driver’s licence suspension. There are re-instatement fees involved in getting a driver’s licence back.

At 1:13 p.m. a traffic stop on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road resulted in a charge of driving while under suspension being levied against a 29-year-old Hamilton man. He will appear in Traffic Court on January 6th, 2020 to answer to the charge. His car was towed from the scene.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Belleville, ON – On December 13th, 2019, at 7:56 a.m. police, fire and EMS attended at the intersection of Bridge Street East and Church Street in relation to a two-car collision. Both drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries. A 52-year-old woman was charged with failing to stop at a red light. Both cars were towed.

At 4:08 p.m. police attended on Sidney Street south of College Street West in relation to a three-car collision. EMS attended to treat the drivers for minor injuries. A 63-year-old Belleville man was charged with careless driving.

RIDE Program

Belleville, ON – On December 13th, 2019, the Belleville RIDE Team checked a total of 313 vehicles at various checkpoints.

On December 13th, 2019, at 11:45 p.m. the RIDE Team was set up on Old Hwy 2 at Mitchell Road. A vehicle was observed attempting to avoid the RIDE checkpoint. A 30-year-old Trenton man was issued a three-day licence suspension for cannabis consumption. He was also issued a provincial offence notice for operating a motor vehicle while cannabis was readily available. His car was towed from the scene.

On December 14th, 2019, at 1:53 a.m. the RIDE Team was set up on Bell Blvd. A vehicle was observed attempting to avoid the RIDE checkpoint. A 47-year-old Trenton man was issued a three-day licence suspension for alcohol consumption.
