Off Road Safety

Belleville, Ontario – On 20 & 21 October, 2012 members of Belleville Police Service conducted off road patrols on numerous trails within city limits checking for compliance in relation to the Off Roads Vehicle Act and the Highway Traffic Act for Ontario (Reg 316/03).

Cst Clint Hamilton stated: "The fall weather creates ideal conditions for trail users and we (the police) will continue to conduct patrols with the focus being on safety and compliance for all users of our trail systems”.

As a result of the weekend patrols police issued 6 offence notices violations for infractions from the Off Roads Vehicle Act specifically:

· 3 offence notices for riders with no helmets

· 1 offence notice for a rider with no insurance

· 2 offence notices for a rider failing to present proof of insurance

Belleville Police would like to remind everyone that only persons possessing a valid G2 or higher class of drivers' license may operate ATVs on highways and insurance and registration are mandatory. As well headlamps should be on at all times.
