Belleville Police Gun Amnesty Program
Belleville, ON – The Belleville Police Service will conduct a Gun Amnesty Program for the month of April, 2018. This amnesty will coincide with the OPP’s provincial gun Amnesty program.
This initiative is designed to help members of the community safely and easily dispose of unwanted or illegally owned firearms, weapons or ammunition for destruction. It is also a reminder to owners of non-restricted firearms to ensure they are in compliance with the requirements of the firearms act.
Many firearms used in crimes originate from break and enters. If you have unwanted firearms or ammunition in your home, consider turning them into police during the amnesty.
“The Gun Amnesty Program is a good opportunity for people to dispose of unwanted firearms without facing penalties and reducing the risk that they might be stolen and used for criminal purposes” said Deputy Chief Mike Callaghan.
DO NOT BRING FIREARMS, AMMUNITION OR EXPLOSIVE DEVICES to any Police Station. Please contact the Belleville Police Service at 613-966-0882 and use extension “GUNS”- 4867. Arrangements will be made for an office to attend and safely retrieve the weapon.
*Police note there is no Amnesty offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime. No anonymous submissions will be accepted.
