Belleville Police Service responded to 48 calls for service from the 18th of January 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to the 19th of January 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Fatal snowmobile accident

Belleville, ON – On the 18th of January at 7:25 p.m. Belleville Police began receiving calls regarding an accident involving a snowmobile on Bay Bridge Rd. Police, Ambulance and Fire attended the scene and it was found to be a single motor vehicle accident, being the snowmobile. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the snowmobile was northbound on Hwy 62 in Prince Edward County and lost control shortly after entering Belleville by way of the bay bridge. Both occupants of the snowmobile, a 52-year-old male and a 39-year-old female were rushed to Belleville General Hospital by ambulance. The male has been transferred to Kingston General Hospital while the female occupant died while attempts were being made to do the same with her. The Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit and Forensic Identification Services were called in to investigate. Police are appealing to the public for anyone who may have any information regarding the operation of the snowmobile or the accident or anyone who witnessed the snowmobile travelling in the County or in Belleville to contact Sgt.
