The Belleville Police Service responded to 70 calls from January 3rd 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to January 4th 2020 at 5:00 am.

Hit and run motor vehicle collision

Belleville, ON – On January 3rd 2020 at 12:02 p.m. police learned of a two-car collision in the Sidney Street and Maple Drive area.  An investigation revealed the motor vehicles were travelling southbound on Sidney Street.  One vehicle stopped to turn left onto Maple Drive and was struck from behind by the second, approaching motor vehicle.  Damage was described as “moderate” to both automobiles.  An 8-year old child in the stricken vehicle was taken to Belleville Hospital and treated for a minor injury.  The vehicle causing the crash is described as a red Nissan SUV with Province of Quebec licence plates.  The driver of this auto is described as a white male in his 60’s, and left the area without rendering any assistance, or providing information to the driver he hit.  The investigation is continuing.  Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this to please contact investigating officer Cst. Theft results in numerous charges

Belleville, ON – On January 3rd 2020 at 8:36 p.m. police were called to a shopping centre in the north end of the city for a report of a thieving couple stealing alcohol.  Police responded quickly and located the pair outside of the business.  Police were able to connect the involved male in this theft with an earlier theft of merchandise from the same location a day earlier at 3:07 p.m.  Police arrested a 26-year old female from Belleville, who was later released unconditionally, without charge.  Police also arrested 26-year old city resident Aaron Junior Ty Woods and charged him with two counts of theft – under five thousand dollars, and four counts of failing to comply with probation orders.  Woods was released from custody on an undertaking with a January 30th court date.

Break and enter nets cigarettes

Belleville, ON – On January 4th 2019 at 02:33 a.m. police responded to an alarm at a business location in the north end of the city on Highway #37.  Officers observed the business to have been broken into via the front door.  Police cleared the building of any suspect(s).  The Forensic Identification Unit was called in to assist in the matter.  Approximately $2000.00. worth of cigarettes was stolen.  The investigation is continuing.
