The Belleville Police Service responded to 70 calls for service between January 6th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. and January 7th, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Disturbance with Weapons

Belleville, ON – On January 6th, 2020, at 5:46 a.m. police attended at a Brown Street apartment in relation to a disturbance. One caller indicated that a person had a baseball bat in his possession. Officers were allowed in one apartment and consent was granted to search for the baseball bat. An officer discovered a male hiding in a bedroom closet. A check revealed that 33-year-old Michael John Bird of Belleville was wanted on several warrants by the Belleville Police Service. His charges include failing to attend court X 2, failing to appear for fingerprints, flight from Police, and breach of probation X 6. He will appear for bail on January 7th, 2020.

Flight from Police

Belleville, ON- On January 6th, 2020, at 8:20 p.m. an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Station Street as there was information that a prohibited driver was operating the car. The car failed to stop for police and continued east on Station Street. The pursuit was discontinued at this point. The car was last seen turning south on Haig Road. Responding units located the vehicle abandoned on Janlyn Crescent. The investigation centred on a residence near the car. The property owner of the residence requested that police remove two persons from their residence. A 29-year-old Belleville woman was arrested inside this residence for being unlawfully in a dwelling house. Further investigation revealed that she was the driver of the car that had failed to stop for police. She was also charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, operate a motor vehicle while prohibited, breach of a recognizance, breach of probation, and two counts of driving while under suspension. She will appear for a bail hearing on January 7th, 2020.  The car was impounded for 45 days.

Traffic Enforcement

Belleville, ON – On January 6th, 2020, at 11:19 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop on Bell Blvd. The investigation revealed that the driver was a suspended driver. The 41-year-old man was charged with driving while under suspension and will appear in Traffic Court on February 3rd, 2020.

On January 6th, 2020, at 2:35 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop on Bell Blvd. The driver, a 42-year-old man, was charged with failing to have insurance, surrendering false documents, and making a false statement. He will appear in Traffic Court on February 3rd, 2020.

Intoxicated male

Belleville, ON – On January 7th, 2020, at 2:00 a.m. police attended at a licenced establishment on North Front Street regarding a male who was refusing to leave. A 63-year-old Belleville man was arrested for his own protection under the Liquor Licence Act. He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was issued a provincial offence notice.

Suspicious Package

Belleville, ON – On January 7th, 2020, at 2:35 a.m. police attended at the Post Office on Davy Road regarding a suspicious package. The staff had removed the package from the building as there was a “ticking” noise from within. Police tracked down the intended recipient of the package who indicated that he was expecting a package which would contain clothing and a clock. The recipient attended at the Post Office and was able to take early possession of his package.
