Lock it or Lose it Campaign Begins in Belleville
Belleville ON – The Belleville Police are reminding motorists and passengers to Lock It OR Lose It when it comes to their vehicles and valuables. The Belleville Police Service is launching this proactive policing initiative know as Lock It OR Lose It today, which encourages drivers and passengers to take precautions and protect their vehicles and contents from theft, particularly during the holiday season. The Belleville Police Service is launching this year’s Lock It OR Lose It campaign during the holiday season because it’s easy for people to be distracted and leave their vehicle unlocked or valuables in plain sight during the holiday hustle-and-bustle.
This year the Belleville Police Service has partnered with Loyalist College Police Foundations program to assist in administering the campaign. This is in addition to Patrol Officers, Auxiliary Officers, and Community Policing Volunteers who will examine parked vehicles to confirm they are locked and that no valuables have been left in plain view. A small notice will be placed on the vehicles checked indicating what safety precautions were neglected and offer simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notices also congratulate drivers who have secured their vehicle.
This successful crime prevention program focuses on reducing vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles. These partnerships strengthen our commitment to being “Partners with the Community” in our continued efforts to make Belleville the Safest Community in Ontario.
