Belleville Police Service responded to 47 calls for service from the 25th of March 2020 at 5:00 a.m. to the 26th of March 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

Police Vehicle Pursuit / Dangerous Driving

Belleville, ON – On the 25th of March 2020, at approximately 6:30 p.m., city police attempted to stop a vehicle in the city which failed to stop and fled from police. 

The suspect vehicle was described as a blue Volkswagen Beetle and was travelling Southbound on Cannifton Rd. N. heading into the city.  The city officer activated his emergency lights and siren attempting to stop the suspect vehicle at which time the suspect began to increase his speed exponentially as it crossed over the Hwy 401 overpass on Cannifton Rd.  The suspect was travelling at a top speed of 120 km/h weaving in and out of traffic.  City police discontinued the pursuit as to not compromise the safety of the public.    

Approximately 20 minutes later, city police located the suspect vehicle abandoned in a South West parking lot in the city with its lights still on.  Through the police investigation, the suspect driver was identified and charges are pending.
