On Line Criminal Record Check Submission

The Belleville Police Service wants to help you simplify the Criminal Record Check (CRC) application process. Using their NEW online application, skip a trip to the Police Station to pick up the form, complete it and submit it. The only time you'll need to come into the Police Station is to pick up your finalized Criminal Record Check approximately 5 to 7 business days from form submission.

Applicants will be able to pay for their CRC request through the secure online credit card payment system.

After you submit your application, you'll automatically receive a request number. This number can be used if the applicant decides to check the status of their application on line or if they have any enquiries.

A status check will only indicate whether the criminal background check is complete or not, no personal information will be available. The CRC application process usually takes about 5 - 7 business days before it's ready for pick up.

When your Criminal Record Check is ready for pick up at the Police Station, you'll be automatically notified through your email address. Applicants are reminded not to forget to bring two pieces of photo ID when they go to the Police Station to claim their final Criminal Record Check report.

Change in fee Structure

To further stream line the process the Belleville Police Service has changed the fee for service to ALL applicants. The cost for a CRC Request is now $30.00 regardless of where the applicant lives. This is for both Employee and Volunteer applications if requested on line or in person at the Belleville Police Service.

To make a request for the Belleville Police Service to perform a Criminal Record Check for Employment or Volunteer (payment required) purposes, you have two options:

  • The online Criminal Record Check service (requires a $30.00 pre-payment made with VISA or MasterCard), or;
  • Down load the Criminal Record Check Request Form online from the Belleville Police Service web site and/or attend the Belleville Police Service at 93 Dundas Street East in person to fill out the Form and submit it to our Records Office personnel (requires a $30.00 payment). Pre-payment in person must be made with cash.

Eligibility for FREE Volunteer Criminal Record Checks:

The Belleville Police Service continues to offer a free Criminal Record Check for community volunteers and that process can be reviewed by selecting the "Let Us Help You? tab and then reviewing the scheduled dates within the "Events? tab of the Belleville Police Service web site.

The Belleville Police Service will complete a free record check on these dates for any person who is volunteering in a school or organization within the City of Belleville, even if they reside outside of Belleville.We will also complete these for our residents, regardless where they volunteer outside our City; however a letter from the volunteering agency is still required.

These records checks are NOT FREE for non-residents of the City of Belleville for volunteering activities in schools and/or organizations outside of our community.

The On Line Criminal Record Check will be available to the public as of Thursday January 6, 2011.

E-Reporting through the BPS Web Site

Citizens wishing to report a crime that has occurred in the City of Belleville may be able to initiate this report on line through the Belleville Police Service web site.

The Internet is increasingly central to public access and information. Online crime reporting allows the public to file police reports for non-emergency incidents and crimes via the Internet, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. This new process is intended to expand our channels of communication through the Internet but it does not replace telephone or face-to-face contact with police, which remains important to us.

Crimes can only be reported if the person does do not know who did it or do not have a suspect who may have done it. The following are the criteria offences that can be submitted through E-Reporting;

Lost Property
Mischief under $5000
Theft under $5000
Attempted Theft under $5000
Theft from Motor Vehicle
Attempted Theft from Motor Vehicle
Theft of Bicycle

Note: The does not include theft of vehicles, loss/theft of a firearm, or loss/theft of a licence plate which must be reported to a police officer.

Once the citizen has entered the required data they will be issued a Tracking Number and will be contacted by the Belleville Police Service within 1 to 3 business days and given a police incident number for future reference or for insurance purposes.

The Belleville Police Service believes the benefits for the community with E-Reporting are;

  • Reporting incidents does not require the citizen to attend the station or see an officer on scene
  • Better access for those in rural areas of the community
  • Access to police reporting from any location and at any time that is convenient to the reporter
  • A simple and easy step process of entering a police report (user friendly)
  • Ability to exit the process at any time without difficulty

Again, this is not intended to replace telephone or face-to-face contact with police which remains very important to us as it is more about ?convenience' for our community members.
