Arrest made in Sunday Morning Robbery

Belleville, ON - On the 25th of November, 2018 at 5:00 a.m., Police responded to a report of a Robbery from the Tim Horton’s located at College Street and Cannifton Road.

The lone male accused went up to the counter and showed what the employee believed to be a firearm and demanded money. The accused then grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the till and ran from the store. No injuries were sustained by any staff members.

Officers arrived on scene and secured the area. A search of the area was conducted with the assistance of Ontario Provincial Police K-9 Unit. The accused was not located at this time; however, the search resulted in the recovery of some of the stolen cash. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch with the assistance of Forensic Investigative Services were called in to continue the investigation.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., an officer on patrol located the accused walking in the east end of Belleville. He was arrested without incident. At the time of the arrest the accused was found to be in possession of a pellet gun. All cash stolen in the Robbery was recovered on the accused.

The accused, 21 year old Richard MATTATALL of no fixed address, was held for a bail hearing on today’s date on the following charges:

  1. Robbery Using a Firearm - S.344(1)(a.1) Criminal Code

  2. Possession of a weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – S. 88 Criminal Code

  3. Using an Imitation firearm while committing offence. – S. 85(2)(a) Criminal Code
