Selective Traffic Enforcement initiative (STEP)

Belleville, Ontario

The Belleville Police Service is committed to road safety in our community. The implementation of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) in 2013 is aimed at reducing the number of deaths, injuries and property damage resulting from motor vehicle collisions. This initiative will assist the Belleville Police Service in raising awareness of road safety issues in our community, assisting citizens by equipping them with the necessary skills to travel safely on our roadways, reducing the number of collisions and enhancing road safety. Improving the knowledge level of our citizens in the area of highway traffic legislation and the results of not obeying the rules of the road will contribute significantly to the effectiveness of this program. Focused enforcement will be coordinated between the Traffic Management Unit and front line officers. Each month a traffic safety priority will be selected. These priorities will be identified through the media and the Belleville Police Service website.

Priorities will be identified at the beginning of each month and provided to the public through media releases.

The safety priority identified for the month of January 2013 is "RED LIGHT VIOLATION”

The Highway Traffic Act states:

Red Light

Ontario Highway Traffic Act

Please contact Sgt Tom Sweet at 613 966 0882 #2227 if you have any questions about this initiative.
