Mischief managed
A 49-year-old Belleville woman is facing a mischief charge after several downtown businesses were vandalized late Wednesday evening.
Officers were called to the area of Bridge and Front streets around 9:50 p.m. after a woman was observed writing and painting on business windows.
Belleville Police were able to locate the female suspect a short distance away.
Charged with Mischief Under $5,000 is Melissa Maracle, 49, of Belleville. Maracle was released from custody with a court date on August 10.
Break, enter and theft
An early morning break-in at a Front Street business has led to an investigating officer appealing to the public for information about a suspect.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight Wednesday after officers responded to an alarm at a downtown business. Police arrived to find the front window of the store smashed merchandise stolen.
Upon viewing video of the incident, officers observed several vehicles and pedestrians in the area near the male suspect shortly before the incident occurred.
The suspect is described as male, average to slim build, wearing a grey hoodie, light coloured pants, white shoes with a white mask over his face.

Vehicle impounded, licence suspended
A 19-year-old Belleville man had his licence suspended and his vehicle impounded for a number of days after a Belleville Police traffic officer clocked him at 144 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone in Thurlow ward, Wednesday.
The officer was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Foxboro along Highway 62 and Ashley streets when he clocked a vehicle travelling southbound at 144 km/hr. on the highway.
The vehicle, which was driving southbound on Highway 62, was pulled over and the owner was issued a summons to September traffic court for Stunt Driving.
In addition, as part of the charge, his licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
