Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 221 calls for service between 5:00 am on August 11, 2023 to 5:00 am on August 14, 2023.

 

Suspended Driver and No Insurance

On the 11th of August 2023 at 8:00 am, an officer performing traffic enforcement stopped a truck on Dundas Street West.  The driver was determined to be a suspended driver and the truck had no valid contract of insurance.  The owner of the truck was also on scene and it was learned that owner knew the vehicle was being driven without insurance.  As a result of the investigation, the 27-year-old driver was charged with driving while suspended.  The 27-year-old vehicle owner was charged with being the owner and allowing operation without valid insurance.  Both were given September 2023 traffic courts dates and the vehicle was held for a 45-day impoundment.

 

Arrested on Warrants

On the 11th of August at 5:06 pm, Belleville Police attended a business on Bell Blvd. regarding a female who had been arrested for shoplifting by staff.  The female had been observed cutting tags off merchandise.  Officers arrived and confirmed that the female was currently wanted on two outstanding warrants for failing to attend court.  The female was cautioned for theft and trespassed from the business.  The 23-year-old from Belleville was held on the strength of the warrants for a bail hearing.

 

Car versus Electric Scooter collision

On the 11th of August 2023 at 10:46 am, Belleville police responded to Herchimer Avenue regarding a collision between a car and an electric scooter.  Minor injuries were reported by the 70-year-old scooter rider who was struck by a vehicle leaving a driveway.  As a result of the investigation, the driver of the car was charged with failing to yield from a private drive.

 

Intimate Partner Assault

On the 13th of August 2023 at 7:00 pm, Belleville Police attended a west end residence regarding an intimate partner dispute.  Officers arrived on scene and observed that a female had suffered minor physical injuries as a result of the incident.  Further investigation revealed that the male during the argument had assaulted the female and additionally threw a knife in her direction and had threatened to kill her during the incident.  As a result, a 59-year-old male from Belleville was arrested and charged with intimate partner assault, intimate partner assault with a weapon and uttering death threats.  The male was later released on an Undertaking with a September court date.  The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim. 

 

Single Vehicle Collision

On the 13th of August 2023 at 8:19 am, Belleville Police responded to the area of Mudcat Road just west of Countrycharm Dr. regarding a single vehicle collision.  Officers arrived on scene and observed a pick-up truck which struck a guard rail then left the road way and entered a small river.  The vehicle had also caught fire.  Belleville Fire and EMS attended.  The 19-year-old driver from Belleville suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.  Mudcat Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while city staff assessed the integrity of the guard rail.  The Ministry of the Environment was also notified.  The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
