Total calls for service – Over the weekend, Belleville Police responded to 223 calls for service from August 18th, 2023 at 0500hrs to August 21st, 2023 at 0500hrs.  During this time, Belleville Police responded to 12 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 49 911 calls including 911 hang-ups, and several disturbances. 

Disturbance on Friday Night Leads to Arrest

On Friday, August 18th, 2023 at approximately 9:35pm, police attended a restaurant in the north end of the city for a report of an intoxicated male shouting at people in the parking lot.  The male then proceeded to head inside the establishment and began to film people while they were eating.   A 24-year-old male from Belleville, Ontario was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place contrary to Section 31(4) of the LLCA and was later released when sober and able to care for himself.

Disturbance on Saturday Night Also Leads to Arrest

In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at approximately 2:00am, police responded to a disturbance at a bar on Northfront Street.   As a result, a 36-year-old female from Belleville, Ontario was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place contrary to Section 31(4) and was later released when sober and able to care for herself.

Two Arrested on Warrants

On Saturday, August 20th, 2023 at approximately 8:00am, police were patrolling a wooded area near Davey Road as a result of a bicycle theft investigation.  Police spoke with two parties known to have outstanding warrants by both Belleville Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police.   As a result, Melissa Maracle, 50 years old, of no fixed address was arrested on two outstanding warrants.   She was later released with a court date in September.  The second party, a 30-year-old male of Belleville, Ontario, was arrested on a warrant issued by the OPP and turned over to their custody.

One Male Arrested for Arson after Structure Fire in Belleville, Ontario

On Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at approximately 7:40 pm, Belleville Police and Belleville Fire responded to a structure fire at a well-known local business located at North Front Street and Harriett Street.    Area streets were closed down immediately while Belleville Fire worked to put out the fire.    Members of the Belleville Police, including the Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit, also attended.  As a result, a 51- year- old male of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with Arson, contrary to Section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada.  The male has also been charged with two counts of Breach of Probation contrary to Section 733.1(1) C.C. and is being held in custody for a bail hearing today. 

The intersection of Northfront Street and Harriett Street is still closed pending further investigation by both police and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.
