Careless use of a Firearm
A 27-year-old Belleville man is facing criminal charges while a 32-year-old man remains in hospital following what investigators have determined to be an accidental shooting over the weekend.
Belleville police were called to an address on Ridley Street shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday September 3 for what was initially reported as a stabbing.
Officers arrived with Hastings County EMS and determined the male victim was suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, a 32-year-old male from Belleville, was transported initially to Belleville General Hospital before being transferred to Kingston General Hospital. At this time, he remains in serious but stable condition.
Members of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Forensic Identification Unit were called in to assist with the investigation, which at this time determined the incident to be accidental.
Charged with Careless Use of a Firearm is Kameron Williams, 27, of Belleville. Williams was held for a bail hearing on September 5, 2023.
The incident remains under investigation by police.
Police search for picnic thieves
A peaceful riverside picnic along River Road turned sour earlier this week.
Officers were called to a business in the area Tuesday morning after a resident, who was having a picnic nearby along the river the evening before, reported a wallet stolen.
When he left briefly, the resident returned to find his wallet and cell phone were missing. The wallet contained cash and identification.
Two suspects were reportedly observed in the area and were believed to be living in nearby woods. A search of the area came up negative for the suspects.

Trespassers moved along
A couple of stubborn trespassers were moved along by officers after refusing to leave private property, Tuesday.
Officers were called to an area of Pinnacle Street around 9:30 a.m. in regards to a trespassing complaint. The owner of the property advised several homeless people were asked to leave and refused.
Police attended the area and the group was moved along – after they were cautioned with regards to the Trespass to Property Act.
