Theft and Fail to Comply with Probation Order

On the 11th of September 2023 at 11:36 am, police responded to a business on Dundas Street East regarding a theft. Store employees observed a customer obtain approximately $600 worth of merchandise, place the items in reusable bags and then exit the store without paying for the items.  The suspect had departed the area upon police arrival however staff were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and the items stolen.  Police searched the area and located the suspect a short distance away while still in possession of the merchandise.  During the investigation, police learned that the suspect was already on a Probation Order to not attend the business which he was just in.  As a result, 41-year-old Jesse Breen of Belleville was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and breaching his Probation Order.  Breen was released at the scene on an Appearance Notice with a court date in October.  The merchandise was returned to the store.
