Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 63 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on January 08, 2024 to 5:00 am on January 09, 2024.

 

Assault and Weapons Dangerous

On the 8th of January, at 11:25am, police were called to a business on Front Street regarding a disturbance. Police attended and learned that a male had assaulted an employee of the business as he was being removed from the premise.  The suspect had fled the business prior to police arrival.  Police obtained a description of the male and also learned that the suspect maybe in possession of a firearm.  Police searched the area and located the suspect still in the downtown core.  Following a brief scuffle with police, the male was arrested for assault.  During a search of the male, he was found to be in possession of a pistol like BB gun.  As a result, the suspect, a 19-year-old male of no fixed address was charged with assault and weapons dangerous.  He was held for bail.

 

Disturbance leads to numerous criminal charges

On the 8th of January at 2:48pm, police were called to the area of Front Street and Bridge St. regarding two males fighting. Police attended and located the involved parties.  Police spoke to the males and learned that one of the males brandished a knife during the altercation. As a result, a 22-year-old male of no fixed address was initially arrested for assault with a weapon.  The male was searched incident to arrest and was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and stolen property.  He was also breaching his Probation Order.  As a result of the police investigation, the male was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, failing to comply with his probation order and possession of stolen property.  He was held for a bail hearing.
