Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 199 calls for service between 5:00 am on January 26, 2024 to 5:00 am on January 29, 2024.

 

Stunt Driving

On the 26th of January at 7:05am, Belleville Police were conducting traffic enforcement on Bell Boulevard. An officer observed a vehicle travelling at 99km/h in the posted 50km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as a 50-year-old Marmora man. The driver was charged with stunt driving, his licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. He was issued a summons for traffic court in February.

 

Theft, Breach Probation and Assault Police

On the 27th of January at 7:50pm, Belleville Police attended a theft call at a North Front Street business. The complainant advised that while she was working, two males entered the rear of the business and stole her bag which contained her purse. Police observed video footage of the suspects. At approximately 10:25pm, officers on patrol observed the two suspects walking on North Front Street. Police began to arrest the males when one of them became violent and assaulted an officer.  The two males were arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service. Officers were able to recover the majority of the complainant’s belongings. Paul Matheson, 31-years-old of Belleville was charged with theft under $5000 and two counts of failing to comply with probation. Devin Deacon, 26-years-old of Belleville was charged with theft under $5000 and assault police with intent to resist arrest.  Both males were released from custody on an Undertaking and they will appear in court in March.

 

Break, Enter and Theft

On the 27th of January at 11:00am, a citizen was driving on Adam St. in Belleville when they observed a broken window to a business and merchandise scattered on the ground.  Police attended and determined that unknown suspects broke the front window to the business and stole a quantity of items.  The investigation into the break, enter and theft is continuing.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Cst. Impaired Driving

On the 28th of January at 10:30pm, Belleville Police stopped a vehicle in the area of College Street West and Heartwood Drive.  The officer began an investigation into the impairment of the driver.  As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service where he provided samples of his breath which were in excess of the legal limit.  As a result, Joshua Grunig, 37-years-old of Belleville was charged with impaired operation and 80mg plus and was released on an Undertaking with a court date in February.

 

No Insurance and Highway Traffic Act Charge

On the 28th of January at 6:30pm, Belleville Police conducted a vehicle stop on Millennium parkway.  The investigation determined that the driver and vehicle owner had no valid insurance on the vehicle and had not renewed the vehicle’s permit.  The 47-year-old driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and failing to have a valid permit.  The driver was issued a summons with a traffic court date in March.
